Measure T and Measure S
As most of you know, there are 2 ballot measure on the November ballot.
There is our measure, Measure T, and MMWD's measure, Measure S. The difference is that Measure S allows MMWD to spend millions on contracts for permits, design, and engineering of the desal plant without a vote of the public.
Our measure, Measure T, requires a vote before MMWD can spend such funds. We say, "Vote before you spend." Yes on T, No on Spending.
- Measure T is fiscally responsible. MMWD has spent 20 years and millions of ratepayer dollars pushing a San Rafael desalination plant to convert Bay water into drinking water. Measure T requires a vote of the public before MMWD spends $30 million more on permits, designs, and contracts for this desalination plant.
- Measure T is a community measure. Local citizens collected over 18,000 signatures from Marin voters to put Measure T on teh ballot.
- Measure T is endorsed by the Marin Democratic and Republican Parties. In a rare moment of agreement, both parties are calling for a vote of the public before MMWD spends million more on advancing this controversial desalination plan.
A steering committee has begun meeting to drive this campaign on a regular basis. We are planning a kick-off event in early-mid September.
In order to be successful, and to break through the confusion of the 2 measures, we will need help with such things as calling voters, going door-to-door, leafleting, and fundraising.
Nearly half of Marin votes absentee, so these things will need to happen soon.
Please let me know which of these activities you'd prefer to work on or if you have any other suggestions for how to make the campaign successful.
